Step into the Future

The 5th edition of the YES Talks, entitled “Step into the Future”, will take place on April 4th 2018, at 14h30, at Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, in Porto.

On the 5th YES Talk, you will have the opportunity to attend lectures on the issue of Robotic Surgery given by Dr. Carlos Vaz and Dr. Giulia Veronesi.

Carlos Vaz

Dr. Carlos Vaz is a General Surgeon and the Director of the Colorectal Cancer Unit at I.C.O. (CUF Oncology Institute), as well as Director of the General Surgery Department and the Center for the Treatment of Obesity.

His main research areas of interest are robotic and minimally invasive bariatric surgery and Colorectal Surgery.


Giulia Veronesi

Dr. Giulia Veronesi is chief of the Robotic Thoracic Surgery Unit among the Division of Thoracic and General Surgery in Humanitas Research Hospital.

Since 2006 , she developed a pioneer program - the Robotic Surgery Program for thoracic disease and performed more than 250 robotic surgical procedures as first surgeon.

After completing your registration you’ll receive the payment details in the email address provided. If you do not receive the mentioned email, please contact us through info@yesmeeting.org.

To conclude your registration and secure your seat, you are required to pay the entrance fee of 3€. You will have 7 days to do so. If you fail to meet this deadline, we will attribute your seat to the next person in the waiting list.

The 5th YES Talk participation fee includes:

  • All the scientific lectures

  • Possibility of winning a free entrance for the 13th YES Meeting

How to get to the 5th YES Talk

Excited about the 5th YES Talk but you do not know how to get there? Don’t worry, we are here to help you.


The easiest option for those departing from FMUP is to use the metro:

  1. At Hospital de São João metro station, you can catch any metro (“D” line/yellow, towards Santo Ovídio);
  2. Leave at Aliados station;
  3. From Aliados Avenue you can go on foot (30 minutes walk) or by bus: 201, 208, 302, 501 - leave at Palácio station (Pal3)


If you prefer to go by bus, you can use line 803 (HSJ11, IPO2, CSJ4 or ISEP4 stops), leave at Boavista Bom Sucesso and walk approximately 20 minutes to Biblioteca Almeida Garrett or lines 300 (HSJ6, ESE2 or FEUP2 stops), 301 (HSJ12 or IPO5 stops), 305 (HSJ8 stop), 600 (AML4 stop) and leave at Aliados.


Don’t forget: Always validate your ANDANTE ticket when you start your travel and when you change to another line or vehicle. You must validate, at most, 10 minutes before your travel starts. For validating correctly, put your ANDANTE ticket near the validation machine. A green light will appear.

Previous Editions

The YES Talks are a parallel initiative of the annual congress, developed by the Organizing Committee of YES Meeting, which consists of a session subordinated to a theme of the biomedical sciences and directed to the students of that same area, with a view to the dissemination and expansion of the basic concept of the congress.

1st YES Talk

The 1st edition of YES Talks was held in 27 march 2014, at ICBAS / FFUP complex. The theme of this edition was the Chronic Pain and was attended by Professor Castro Lopes, a Associate Professor at FMUP and director pain unit at FMUP. Moreover, we were honored with the presence of Professor Daniel Moura, Farmacology Professor at FMUP.

2nd YES Talk

The 2nd edition of YES Talks was held in 15 april 2015, at Almeida Garrett Library. This year the theme was Interventional Radiology, a subspecialty of Radiology that grows exponentially in its diagnostic and therapeutic applications. It was attended by Dr. Nuno Silva, specialist of Radiology Service of the Hospital Center of São João, and by Dr. Miguel Madureira, specialist in the same center.

3rd YES Talk

The 3rd edition of the YES Talks, entitled “Reaching for the Heart”, took place on the 27th April 2016, at Biblioteca Municipal Almeida Garrett, in Porto. In this edition, participants had the opportunity to attend a lecture given by Professor Alain Carpentier, recipient of the 2007 Lasker Award, and Dr. João Lima, professor of Medicine, Radiology and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

4th YES Talk

The 4th edition of YES Talks, which was held in 26 April 2017 at the António de Almeida Foundation, was attended by Professor Enrico Lopriore, from the Willem Alexander Children's Hospital of Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Professor Alexandra Matias and Dr. Teresa Castro from the Faculty of Medicine of Porto's University and Dr. Carlota Rodó Rodriguez, from the unit of Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. This YES Talk was dedicated to Multiple Pregnancy.
