Healthcare Management: Behind the Scenes

General Information:
Schedule: Sunday, 16h30
Lecturer: Mário Amorim Lopes, MS PhD

Workshop’s Description:
While physicians and nurses work hard to save patients’ lives, a great number of people are operating behind the scenes ensuring health care operations and logistics run smoothly. In this workshop we will look at some of the most critical problems health care units face, such as emergency ward layout design, patient flow problems, capacity and staff planning, as well as some of the best responses academics and practitioners have found to address these issues. Furthermore, we’ll have a glimpse at how human resources for health, in particular physicians and nurses, will evolve in the future at a national scale.
